The NSA/FCA Summer Membership Meeting was a wealth of great information, designed to help members do well and do good. As is customary, NSA members flock to help a good cause.
Executive Director Meli Pulido and Events Coordinator Melanie Montalvo of Project 150 discussed the work their organization is doing in the community. They also recognized NSA member companies who participated in the Project 150/NSA Career & Employment Fair on May 31.
Project 150 offers support and services to homeless high school students. The organization provides food, clothing, school supplies and other necessities. Several NSA member companies have been assisting Project 150.
Receiving plaques for participating in the job fair were Alpha Landscapes; BMC SelectBuild; Classic Door & Trim; Cooper Roofing & Solar; Hirschi Masonry; Plumbing, Heating & Cooling Contractors of Nevada; Sierra Air Conditioning and Silver State Specialties. Cal/Pac Painting, Colvin Concrete and Sunrise Carpentry also were awarded plaques but representatives of the companies were not able to attend the meeting.
Pulido also noted a couple NSA members who provided special contributions to help make the job fair successful. Though Classic Door & Trim was not able to attend the job fair, the company donated doughnuts and drinks for all the jobseekers and employers. Cooper Roofing & Solar donated $500 worth of bus passes for job seekers wishing to attend the event.
A number of NSA members have been aiding Project 150 for some time, including Silver State Specialties and Focus Plumbing, two companies that are among Project 150’s Senior Class Supporters.
School may be out but Project 150 is not resting. Preparations for next school year are well underway.
And the needs for these students don’t end when school is out of session. Project 150 assists students in locating summer food sites, continues to collect donations and assists students even during the summer months.
Pulido announced that one item in particular they are looking for at this time is adult-sized bicycles for the students. Other items Project 150 can use are listed here.
