NSA members may have noticed additional taxes on their fuel bills during the last few months. Clark County increased taxes on gasoline and diesel fuels in January and again in July, a total of about a 6.6¢ between the two increases.
These taxes are a result of legislation passed during the 2013 Legislature that permitted the Clark County Commission to raise fuel taxes and use the additional funds for road repair and construction projects.
The Clark County Commission voted last year to implement a 3.3¢ increase in January and to index fuel taxes to inflation, which may allow them to increase each July through 2016. In November 2016, voters in Clark County will decide whether indexing will continue in 2017 and beyond.
According to the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, funds from Fuel Revenue Indexing will be used to build “the Boulder City Bypass, Flamingo Corridor Improvements, the Maryland Parkway Corridor Project, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) upgrades” as well as other projects.
While we’re on the subject of fuel, River City Petroleum offers discount programs to NSA members.
